A total of 27-thousand 481 illegal immigrants (PATI) was sentence to jail since PATI court was set up at the Immigration Detention Temporary Depot throughout the country from 15th December 2006 to 12th of December 2007.

Its Enforcement Director, Dato' Ishak Mohamad says out of that 18-thousand 776 was sentence to jail, 6-thousand 005 in jail and whipping, 412 in penalty, 519 in deportation and 702 still hearing in court.

Dato' Ishak told reporters this after chairing the Immigration Department and RELA Management meeting at Bekenu Detention Temporary Depot, about 30 kilometres from Miri, today.

He explained that about 60 to 70 per cent or 15-thousand 856 illegal immigrants without document, 7-thousand 506 over staying and 1-thousand 946 of misuse of travel document.

Adds that since PATI Court started it operation on the 15th of December 2006, Semenyih Detention Temporary Depot recorded the highest number of illegals detention with 11,175, followed by Pekan Nenas Detention Temporary Depot with total of 3-thousand 841 and 2-thousand 048 in Langkap Detention Temporary Depot.

Dato' Ishak also disclosed that on 2007, one businessman in Melaka was sentence to whipping cause of smugglers five Indian workers without permit and documents.

Meanwhile, one army was sentence to jail in Semuja (Serian) Detention Temporary Depot cause of smugglers three Indonesian via Immigration border in Serikin, Bau.
He reiterated that Immigration Department will take more aggressive action and not hesitate to Malaysians particular along the border in illegal entry points which are normally used by smugglers.

A total of Fourteen PATI Court had set up throughout the country since 15th of December 2006.
